Want to add sign in with a LinkedIn feature to your app? Before installing the proper gem, you should start with creating a new application on the LinkedIn. The whole process is really simple and all you need to do is to fill out an application form and copy credentials to your app config file.

In order to create the new application, you have to be signed in into your account. If you are already signed then you can go directly to https://www.linkedin.com/secure/developer?newapp

Fill out all required fields. Don’t worry, e-mail, phone and website address are not verified. You can input not existing website address if your application is not live yet.

After form submission, you will see your application details. In the Authentication Keys section you would find two keys, Client ID and Client secret that are required in your app in order to allow user to sing in with LinkedIn. And that’s it!

Important: LinkedIn does not allow anymore to fetch connections of authorized user. You have to become LinkedIn partner to have more features available via API. Go to https://developer.linkedin.com/partner-programs to read more about it.
