Introduction to Rails patterns

TL;DR you will receive “Introduction to Rails patterns” book (over 50 pages of useful tips) when you will subscribe to my newsletter here. You can unsubscribe anytime. If you are not sure then you can download the first two chapters directly here.

When I wrote my first ebook I was not happy with the whole process of creating it. I enjoyed writing but putting it all together into a book was a nightmare. I was not familiarized with this art and I was not able to format the code snippets properly. I gave up for a long time. In the meantime, my book was downloaded almost 1,000 times so I can’t just let it go.

The vision

I started to think about automatization and ways of speeding up the process of making a book. I enjoy writing with markdown syntax so I came up with the idea of writing a book in the same way I create software. It would be wonderful if you can just start a new branch for the new chapter and when it’s ready, all you have to do is to merge your code to master and then the magic happens. Brand new and updated book in PDF format is generated automatically along with the table of contents, cover, page numbers and syntax highlighting.

The star is born

Are you wondering if it finally works as I described above? Well, you have to download the book and judge the result yourself. Introduction to Rails pattern was fully generated automatically from markdown files. There are still a few things to improve but this format is way better than my previous book. Building a tool for generating PDF books was an awesome journey and I’m excited to share the code as an open source soon.
